Cheap Kitchens
Cheap
kitchens that don’t cost the earth can be a reality
today. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get what looks
like a very expensive kitchen as an end result.
One trick that you can use
to make cheap kitchens look like their more expensive
counterpart is to buy some relatively low cost units and
finish them off with a beautiful granite or Corian worktop,
this will give the appearance of a luxury
kitchen.
Another thing you can do to
make the kitchen cupboard doors of a cheap kitchen look more
stylish is to purchase fancy handles that again help to lend
some design to the cheap units.
Lighting can play an
important part in any kitchen, you want enough light in your
preparation and cooking areas to carryout the kitchen tasks
that you have to but you can also use spot lights and lights
under the wall units to cast some good looking light effects
onto your worktops.
The design can play an
important part in making any kitchen look good and with some
clever design even cheap kitchens can look amazing, as being
a kitchen designer is a profession in its own right a good
idea is to go to one of the more expensive kitchen places
and get the kitchen designer to plan your kitchen with you,
they will spend some time and usually give you a 3d plan to
go away with whilst you consider the price. Once you have
this plan and you are happy with the design you can go to a
lower cost kitchen supplier and buy appropriate units to
suit the plan.
Think about your colour
schemes early on as this will affect the way your kitchen
looks, it also pays to choose the floor covering at the same
time. You will probably want to tile a splash back behind
the hob if not all the way along between your floor and wall
units so you need to go out and select some
tiles.
Cheap kitchens can be
achieved but the spending can get out of hand so to help you
consider the most likely costs that you may face here is a
brief checklist of thing which could cost you money along
the way.
Things to consider when
budgeting for your kitchen are:-
• Do you need to move any
electrical points or light switches? This could be because
you need points where the appliances such as washing
machines and dishwashers will go, or you may need to move a
light switch if it is in the way of where a unit will go or
you may want extra lights fitted. Also you may need a cooker
point installed or moved if you are to have an electric
cooker and you may need a spare point close for an extractor
fan.
• Are you having a gas oven
or hob? If so you may need to get gas plumbed into the
kitchen or alternatively, if you want to move it then you
may need to have the gas re-sited.
• Are you moving the sink
unit and/or dishwasher or washing machine? If so then you
will need to get the hot and cold water supplies and the
waste pipes moved to suit the new location.
• Are you having a tiled
splash back? If so then you will want to factor in the cost
of tiles, adhesive and any labour costs you may
face.
• Are you having a new
floor finish and if so what will it be? Tiles are probably
the most serviceable solution for a kitchen floor although
vinyl and wood flooring a good alternative options, carpet
is probably a bad idea given that food often drops on the
floor in the kitchen.
All of these
should give you some idea of the costs that you may be
faced with but provided that you budget for them there
should be no need for expensive surprises. Good luck on
choosing your cheap kitchens.
