Italy Rugby
Tickets
Italy have been playing international
rugby since the late 1920s, although they probably didn't
sell many Italy Rugby
Tickets back then. In May
1929 Italy played their first international
rugby match against Spain and lost 9 points to
nil. Italy contested the European
Championships from
1936-38.
As with all
of the international rugby unions there was a blip in the sport
during the period of the Second World War
but
Italy then continued to play in the
European Championships from 1952 up until 2000 when they
entered the 6 Nations.
Through the
1970s – 80s the Italian rugby union made progress with the help
of international players and coaches. The national team went on
a tour of South Africa in 1973 and they also
toured England and Scotland and played against the mighty All
Blacks and Australia and quite possibly managed to sell
more Italy Rugby Tickets by now.
After many
years of consistently good results against countries such
as Spain
, Georgia and Romania who now play in the European
Nations Cup the Italians were strong candidates to join
the Five Nations Championship.
The first
ever Rugby World Cup match took place
between
Italy and New Zealand in 1987, New Zealand were clear winners with a score
of 70-6. Italy did manage to finish third in
their pool by beating Fiji.
In
the 1991 Rugby World Cup Italy were in a pool with
England, New Zealand and the USA, they beat the USA but
lost to the other two teams and failed to leave the pool
stages.
In
the 1995 World Cup Italy ran England close to a 20-27
loss, they also lost to Western Samoa but beat Argentina
to finish third in the pool again.
In
1997 Italy beat Ireland twice, 37-29
at
Lansdowne
Road and 37-22
at Bologna. Also in 1997 they recorded their
first win over France and in 1998 Scotland were on the
losing end of Italy and they only just missed out on a
famous victory against England.
In the 1999
World Cup Italy were once again in a group
with New Zealand and they did not win any of the pool
matches meaning an early exit for
them.
Italy were eventually admitted into the (what
is now called) Six Nations Championship in the year 2000 and
they won their opening game against the Scots. They did not win
any games in the following two Six Nations Tournaments but
recorded their second Six Nations win
against
Wales in 2003 and their third against
the Scots in 2004.
In
the 2005 Six Nations Italy again failed to win a single
game and finished bottom of the table but on a tour of
Argentina they managed to beat the Pumas 30-29 and drew
the series one all.
The 2006 Six
Nations saw the Italians become more competitive although they
lost to all but gained a draw with Wales.
The 2007 Six
Nations saw Italy lose to France and England but go on to
beat
Scotland at Murrayfield 37-17
and Wales 23-20 in Rome. They did , however, go on to lose
their last game to Ireland .
In the 2008
Six Nations Italy finished in last place although the
defeats were close and they once again
defeated Scotland 23-20. During the summer tests they
lost out to South Africa but managed to just
beat Argentina with a 13-12
win.
The 2009 Six
Nations saw Italy come bottom of the table again without
a single win and the 2010 Six Nations
saw
Italy beat only Scotland. They do sell more Italy Rugby Tickets
these days but they still have a long way to progress.
